Good morning!
If you’re new here, be sure to start with the mini-course on allwaysaway.com. If you’re a frequent flyer, let’s jump in:
American Express Membership Rewards Transfer Bonuses
Chase Ultimate Rewards Transfer Bonuses
Gift Card Deals (Airbnb, Delta)
American Express Membership Rewards Transfer Bonuses
American Express is offering two ongoing transfer bonuses for their points:
Flying Blue (Air France & KLM), 25% Bonus through 5/22/2023
Air France offers up to four cabin classes: First (La Première), Business Class, Premium Economy Class, and Economy Class.
Given the BILT offer last week as well as the ongoing bonuses, I would only transfer points after you’ve found primary and backup availability. Read more about Flying Blue in our last issue here.
Avianca LifeMiles, 15% Bonus through 5/31/2023
Unlike Flying Blue above, this bonus (as seen in the screenshot) will only be reflected in your LifeMiles account. Once your Amex transfer arrives in LifeMiles, they’ll provide the 15% bonus. You can read more about this offer here. You can use your LifeMiles to redeem flight tickets with Avianca, Star Alliance airlines, Iberia and Aeromexico or to pay for hotel stays, rent a car or pay for your favorite products at Amazon.
Again, I would only transfer points after you’ve found primary and backup availability since 15% is nice but not enough for a proactive transfer IMHO. Also don’t feel limited to Avianca. Since they’re part of Star Alliance, you can also book other rewards like this great flight to Japan via United through their portal.
Transfer miles for both offers via American Express.
Chase Ultimate Rewards Transfer Bonuses
Chase is offering three ongoing transfer bonuses for Ultimate Rewards points:
Flying Blue (Air France & KLM), 25% Bonus through 5/15/2023
This is an alternative option to the Amex offer above, yo might want to use Amex or Chase depending on where you have more points or which cards allow you to more easily earn points. Read more about Flying Blue in our last issue here.Virgin Atlantic Flying Club, 30% Bonus through 6/15/2023
I’m familiar with this bonus since I’ve seen and used it before to amplify my points for ANA First Class & Business Class bookings. While it’s not as easy to book ANA reward flights via Virgin since you have to call them, I do think it’s a fantastic option since you’re getting 30% bonus miles with this deal and you’re allowed to book one way flights instead of having to find a roundtrip reward. We covered this route further here.Marriott Bonvoy, 50% Bonus through 5/15/2023
While many people love to hate on Bonvoy, I believe there are still great deals to be had in that program, like our stay in Coconut Grove where we took advantage of booking 4 nights and getting the 5th night free.
Transfer miles for all offers via Chase.
Gift Card Deals (Airbnb, Delta)
Best Buy is offering a 10% rebate in the form of Best Buy credit for select gift cards:
Airbnb, $20 Best Buy e-Gift Card with $200 Airbnb gift card purchase
Delta, $25 Best Buy e-Gift Card with $250 Delta gift card purchase
10% off isn’t spectacular, but we’re sharing this in case you’re actively planning a trip. Note that using a gift card may negate your purchase protections and other insurances built into your premium travel card, so only purchase gift cards if you’re ok with that.
Regardless of a limited time promotion from a specific retailer, the most strategic way to buy gift cards is using a credit card that earns bonus points from that store category. For example, use a business card at office supply stores for 5x points on purchases including gift cards. Another example is using a card like the American Express® Gold Card to purchase gift cards at a grocery store and earn 4x points on those purchases.
Be sure to reply with any questions or if you’re ready for a 1:1 to get started!
