ALLWAYSAWAY | December Recap
Award Travel Deals
NY/NJ <> Tokyo via United Economy for 35k Points + ~$50
—> Solid deal to/from Tokyo via United with almost daily availability from February through early June. If you’re planning a trip to Japan this is a great fallback option, especially now while Biz/First award availability is so difficult to find. We’re on the hunt for Biz/First seats back from in March, but can rest assured we still have a way home, plus it can be canceled with no penalty in case we’re able to find a more comfy option. To book this deal, simply create a United Mileage number and link your Chase Ultimate Rewards account to initiate a transfer.
💡 Remember: Always ensure your desired award is available before transferring your miles/points.NYC <> Frankfurt via Singapore Airlines Business Class
Singapore KrisFlyer has included business class on the JFK-Frankfurt route in the latest round of Spontaneous Escapes. To book an award with the 30% discount, you need to book by January 31 and travel in February.
—> Two recommend ways of taking advantage of this deal:
- Singapore KrisFlyer (usually 81,000 miles but only 56,700 miles with the Spontaneous Escapes promo).- Air Canada Aeroplan (60k points each way), this isn’t as easy to book as going direct, but for those who aren’t familiar with Aeroplan, they allow you to add a stopover to any itinerary for only 5k-10k miles more.
In Lesson 3 we covered Fifth-Freedom flights, this is a prime example of one and a great way to experience Singapore Airlines even if you aren’t traveling to Asia.

The Ink Unlimited and Cash Credit Cards have had a fantastic promotion for the past month or so. Unlimited is offering the chance to earn $900 Bonus Cash Back after you spend $6,000 on purchases in the first 3 months from account opening. If you’re starting a business, investing in real estate, or simply taking your side-hustle to the next level, I like the idea of having a business card to keep your expenses separated from personal expenses and to make tax time that much easier.

Card Benefits
The Platinum Card® from American Express
The Equinox benefit is easier to use than ever before.
—> For those who aren’t Equinox members, you can now use your $300 annual credit to purchase an annual subscription to Equinox+ on-demand workout videos.I mostly workout solo or with YouTube but was excited to see the breadth of content from strength training to yoga and meditation classes. Big shoutout to American Express for expanding this benefit and for reliably reimbursing the purchase price for benefits, my refund posted within 2 days of my purchase:
Chase GoPuff Monthly $10 Credit + Rakuten
Back in Nov 2021 Chase announced their partnership with GoPuff, giving many Chase cardholders a $10 statement credit each month after spending $10 or more at GoPuff.
GoPuff is a grocery delivery service operating in many major US cities. For those in California, they’ve partners with BevMo stores and for my New Yorkers, they have at least 4 locations scattered about Manhattan, ensuring fast delivery or convenient pickup. While $10 isn’t a ton to spend, I must admit the snack selection on GoPuff is pretty sweet, and to make the deal even sweeter, you can earn cash back with Rakuten.
—> You can signup for GoPuff on mobile/web and use Rakuten to get 5% back on each order.
—> New to GoPuff? Get $100 off through this link.
—> New to Rakuten? Get $30 after making your first purchase here.
