Good morning,
We have a packed agenda with five topics to cover:
330 Day Rule & United Devaluation
Lyft $25 Credit via Hilton
Wyndham Promo
Qatar Transfer Bonus
Citi Premier Review
Let’s jump in!
United Devaluation Continues
As mentioned in our last newsletter, whenever you see a devaluation happen within an airline or hotel group and it only impacts a specific region, it’s likely a good time to act. United devaluations started for European routes and now impact routes to Asia and elsewhere.
If you’re still sitting on 6+ figures of United MileagePlus Miles, be sure to price out routes and if it makes sense, book upcoming travel now. The magic number to remember is 330 days. For United and most airlines, you’re able to book reward tickets 330 days in advanced.
Lyft $25 Credit via Hilton Honors
Hilton Honors is offering a $25 Lyft credit when you link your Hilton and Lyft accounts and book and complete a qualifying stay between May 25 – September 5, 2023.
You can only link your Lyft card to one partner, and they currently offer bonus rewards with Delta Skymiles, Hilton Honors, Alaska Mileage Plan & BILT Rewards. While my preferred partner is BILT for the flexibility of their points, I still believe that this Hilton Honors promo is worth registering for and remembering, if and when you have an upcoming stay at a Hilton that you can book directly with the hotel.
If so, do the following now:
Stay a single night in a Hilton property before September 5, 2023
You may be thinking, I only stay at Hyatt / Marriott / etc, this isn’t relevant. I had the same initial thought and then realized that there’s a wedding I’ll be attending with a room block at a Hilton this Summer. I set a Gmail Snooze reminder on this newsletter the day before we arrive, so I can remind myself to update my Lyft settings.
Once the $25 credit processes, you can switch back to your preferred Lyft partner. If you’re interested in learning more about the BILT Rewards Credit Card, click here.
Wyndham Great Getaway Event Promo
Hilton isn’t the only hotel offering a summer promotion. Wyndham’s Great Getaway is well worth registering for if you’re planning summer travel. Wyndham’s footprint mostly consists of budget and midscale brands like Ramada, Days Inn, Super 8, and Travelodge which are perfect for roadtrips and positioning stays to get you closer to airports, National Parks, and other attractions. If you dig a little deeper, you’ll see that Wyndham has a portfolio of luxury hotels that shouldn’t be overlooked. For example, all the brands I’ve selected below (in blue) are upscale and can be easily searched on Wyndham.
Should you decide to book a Wyndham for summer travel, be sure to first sign up for a Wyndham Rewards account and register for the Great Getaway promotion here.
Qatar Avios Transfer Bonus
Typically transfer bonuses are awarded within your credit card portal. For example, if Airline X is a transfer partnership with American Express, you’ll see an alert for a transfer bonus within your American Express Membership Rewards portal for Airline X. Occasionally an airline offers all inbound point transfers a bonus within the airline loyalty dashboard. In this instance Qatar Airways Privilege Club is doing just that.
Transfer miles from any of the banking partners above (including American Express and Citi credit cards, and many other global partners) to Qatar and they’ll credit your Qatar Avios account with 30% bonus miles. While this is a generous offer, I don’t love the following:
Credits may take up 45 days (which means you cannot immediately book a flight that has award availability).
Nonetheless, it’s worth considering if you’re either looking to book one of their sweet spots in the future or if you’re already a fan of the Avios currency (shared with British Airways, Iberia & Aer Lingus).
A few sweet spots to consider:
US to Doha for 70k miles in Business Class
Since this is a flat rate, it’s a good deal from NY or LA (15.5 hours of top-notch business class service)
Maldives for 85k miles in Business Class
Tack on another 15k miles and you can connect to the Maldives. Before you embark for the 5 hour flight to Maldives, you’re treated to the Al Mourjan Business Class lounge in Doha, equipped with full meal service and showers!
Avios US domestic flights for 7,500 miles
An overlooked domestic option to book American Airlines and Alaska Airlines routes for as little as 7,500 miles each way. You can move Avios from Qatar to British Airways, and then use this link to search for availability.
There are plenty of other options to consider, reach out with questions!
Citi Premier® Card Overview
We’ve spoken about the American Express Gold and Platinum cards quite a bit, but given that the Qatar Avios offer also extends to Citi ThankYou Points, I wanted to share a quick overview of a card that has been on my radar, the Citi Premier® Card.
Citi Premier works much like the Chase Sapphire Preferred. You can either redeem your points to book travel through the Citi ThankYou Portal or transfer them to airline and hotel partners (see the full list of transfer partners in Lesson 1).
Citi is currently offering 60,000 bonus ThankYou® Points after you spend $4,000 in purchases within the first 3 months of account opening. Plus, for a limited time, earn a total of 10 ThankYou® Points per $1 spent on hotel, car rentals, and attractions (excluding air travel) booked on the Citi Travel℠ portal through June 30, 2024.
This card and this specific offer (10x at Hotels until 6/30/24) complements the two hotel offers we featured today! While also offering 3x points at Restaurants, Supermarkets, Gas Stations & Air Travel.
