New to credit card points & miles? Start with the mini-course!
Good morning from Miami,
We’re in Miami on points and will be sharing a full recap next week. For now, let’s jump into the points:
Delta rewards card holders with 15% off award bookings
Capital One drops a new business card that we just picked up
A mini op-ed on comparison shopping for award bookings
Delta rewards cobranded Amex card members with 15% off award bookings
Eligible Delta SkyMiles® Amex Card Members can now enjoy 15% off Award Travel. Instead of a limited time promotion, this is a new cardholder benefit.
I’m not a Delta cardholder, in fact, I’m generally not a fan of cobranded cards since I prefer the flexibility that credit card portals offer in transfer partners. That said, for those Delta fans out there, this is well worth looking into.
If you don’t have existing reward bookings, there’s no action needed.
If you do, than it’s worth double checking those bookings. You can very likely get 15% of your miles back for the same seat with this benefit.

Capital One drops a new business card
We recently picked up the Capital One® Spark® Miles for Business card, here’s why:
Business cards typically offer point multipliers in the predictable categories like office supplies (5x via Chase Ink Cash) and internet advertising (4x via Amex Business Gold)
Multipliers are great for your predictable spend, but one-off expenses from tax prep to insurance or other bills are relegated to 1x earnings, whereas this card offers a flat 2x on all purchases
Further, this card waives the $95 annual fee for the first year and offers a $100 rebate on Global Entry/ TSA Precheck

Award booking comparison shopping pays off!
Not all points bookings are the same. It’s easy to get swept up by the thrill of using your hard-earned points to book a luxurious trip. But being super diligent about how and when you make that booking is the difference between getting a true deal or feeling like you got swindled.
This lesson couldn’t have been more clear when I recently looked into business class flights from Newark to Portugal. As you’ll see in the screenshots, the same exact flight costs:
400k via TAP (the flight operator)
294k points via United (TAP partner)
Only 176k points when booked via ANA (TAP partner)
This is exactly why I prefer flexible rewards points and miles that can be transferred to multiple partners instead of being stuck with a specific airline. Researching travel partners and alternative routes pays dividends, and will allow you to treat yourself to better hotels or another vacation sooner!
